Volunteering

NRCT has a great team of volunteers who donate their time across the Shires of Lismore, Kyogle and Richmond Valley.
Volunteers are the heart of the service and they enjoy giving a little time to enable a better quality of life for others.

Here’s what some of the volunteers have said about volunteering for NRCT.

“I had the most colossal day out! ...My venture into the great wide world was a very positive experience and for the very first time, that feeling of 'I FEEL DIFFERENT' to you was gone. I really felt comfort in the security of the group”.

Volunteer Positions
There are several positions available:

• Individual transport; driving elderly and younger people with disabilities to medical appointments
• Assisting on buses and group outings
• Social Support volunteers offer accompanied shopping, outings and friendly home visiting (Lismore area).

Individual services:
It is up to each driver how often they drive. Some drivers drive on a particular day each week, others offer occasional driving.
NRCT provides local transport as well as long distance individual trips, the driver determines if they are available for long distance trips e.g. the Gold Coast or Brisbane or would prefer only local trips.
NRCT has a range of fleet vehicles, predominately gas dedicated Ford wagons. When drivers do use their own vehicles they are reimbursed for fuel. There are options for individual trips for medical appointments or more social individual trips where you might go out and have a cuppa with a client.

Group services:
Social Support has positions for volunteer bus drivers and bus assistants. Social outings are great fun.

Visiting
There are positions involving friendly home visiting, offering friendship and practical assistance to alleviate social isolation.

Training
There is induction and training for all positions, going out with an experienced volunteer helps new volunteers feel at home.

NRCT is happy for drivers to undertake Centerlink obligatory voluntary hours.
